Dr. Sketchy’s Anti Art School is a cabaret meets life drawing experience started by Molly Crabapple in Brooklyn 2005 that has now become a movement. There are now over 150 branches of Dr. Sketchy’s around the world. The Oklahoma City branch launched in January 2009. The drawing sessions are usually kicked off by a strip tease or performance from the model, feathers and pasties flying. There is a D.J. with great music and a cash bar. Drawing contests are a huge part of the fun and are different every class. One of the contests found the sketchers all required to draw on post-it notes for 10 minutes. The drawing prizes can be doing a shot with that night’s model, a cool art book or a hipster sketch pad. Any level of sketcher is welcome from expert to novice. Tickets are $9 in advance or $15 at the door.
Well, it should be in the Christmas song! We have had a 2 month break and we are rested and ready to draw. Come sketch these 2 beautiful ladies December 12th at IAO Gallery 6 to 10PM. Prizes, contests, music, drinking is how we do it.
Were our first couple to model last year. They drove all the way from Kansas City to pose for us. We will have another couple model this summer if my evil plot is successful! ahaaaaaaaa!
We have so many great photographs from all the classes last year. Just wanted to share another one. The lovely Ilsa the Wolf holding a sketch of herself from our class last January.
We had such a great time with the beautiful Vivienne Vermuth last year during our James Bond tribute that we are bringing her back this summer on June 13th! She is also headmistress of Dr. Sketchy's in Denton, Texas.
about 2009. We had a guest artist, the talented Muriel Fahrion, creator of Strawberry Shortcake and The Care Bears come sketch with us. To close out the class our model that night, the elegant Miss Savonne the Minx of Tulsa, dressed as a sexy Strawberry Shortcake. The room was packed, the sketching and the music were magical together and one of my favorite memories of Sketchy's maybe ever, was created.
The sketchers had to incorporate a "rabid monkey" into their drawing with Ilsa. This person, place or thing was drawn from a jar of suggestions from the art monkeys themselves.
We will be giving away copies of this artful magazine from Brazil at a class in the near future. Sure it will be in Portuguese, but you can look at the beautiful art work.
Yes, we put the beautiful logo designed by the founder of Dr. Sketchy's, Miss Molly Crabapple on our birthday cake. It was red velvet from Sweet Memories bakery. YUM!
That is right. Live body painting. 4 models on 2 stages. We will have Daphne Chardonnay and the Red Hot Mannequins modeling in February. Come Drink and draw with us at the beautiful new IAO Gallery, 706 W. Sheridan.
On January 10th, Dr. Sketchy's Anti Art School in Oklahoma City celebrated its one year anniversary. We brought back the beautiful model from our first class, Ilsa the Wolf. Ilsa is from Tulsa and a member of the Eye Candy Burlesque Troupe. We had cake and sang Happy Birthday. It has been a great year. We are looking forward to 2010 and all drunken sketching. Cheers.
